Gagauzia is a independent region(since 1995) in the southwest of Republic of Moldova, inhabited predominant by gagauzians ,a nation that speak a language close to Turkish, with a culture close to Turkish too, but have orthodox religion .Gagauzian language is considered by UNESCO being on the way to extinctionBetween 1812 and 1846 ,Russians recolonized with gagauzians brought from the east Bulgaria in a orthodox Basarabia, in principle localities abandoned by Nogai.Gagauzians estabilished there conjunctively with basarabian bulgars in Avdarma,Comrat,Congaz ,Tomai ,Cismichioi and other villages. Independent region population is 135000 people,surface is 1830 km2.It is divided in 3 administrative regions :Comrat, Ciadir-Lunga and Vulcanesti. The administration center of the region is Comrat(20000 people).First official reference about the town dates from 1789.
Official languages are gagauzian,Romanian and Russian .On the Gagauzian territory are situated many wineries. Gagauzian cookery is a unique one. At the base it has gagauzian nomadic past ; most of their food contain milk,cow cheese and meat. Some of the most popular food are gozleme,home-made sheep-cheese pies,and mangea,a sauce with meat and red pepper paste.
