It has the greatest variety of geographical shapes of any country in Europe. That means green light for resting in the mountains, hiking and even long pilgrimage routes!
Meet Romania
When you get tired of looking for vampires, change your pace and consider Poiana Brasov. It's Romania's most popular ski resort, which also attracts skiers from all over Europe. Located in the Carpathian Mountains, the ski resort has seven slopes and a combined 25 kilometres of skiable areas. Every year, Poiana Brasov hosts downhill skiing and skating competitions. And at the end of the day, after a whole adventure on the slopes, it's time to warm up with a traditional wine or plum-based drink... like țuica. What more could you want from Romania's tourist attractions than sport and relaxation?
Romania's flag
Romania's flag is a tricolour, made up of three stripes in blue, yellow and red, placed vertically, of equal size. This is what the three colours of the flag mean to the Romanian people:
- Blue - represents the sky, being a noble symbol of good faith;
- Yellow - refers to the richness of the country's wheat fields;
- Red - is the symbol of joy, recalling the blood of the heroes, shed in the battles for the homeland.
Vegetation and soils
Romania's vegetation is characterised by five zones with different soil types:
- The steppe zone: it runs in the south-east of the territory and has the most fertile soils - the cernozomes.
- Silvosphere zone: found mainly in the Moldavian Plain and parts of the Romanian Plain and the Western Plain. The soils are washed cernozomites, also fertile.
- Forest area: structured by storeys, depending on the predominant trees: oaks, beeches, conifers. On these floors, the soils are reddish-brown and forest brown and the podzolic soils less fertile.
- Subalpine zone: can be found between 1800-2000 metres altitude, soils are acid brown.
- Alpine zone: occurs at altitudes above 2000 metres and has acid brown soils.
Tourism
Tourism in Romania focuses on its natural landscapes and rich history. Crossed by the waters of the Danube, Romania has a sensitive scenery, including the beautiful and wooded Carpathian Mountains, the Black Sea coast and the Danube Delta, which is the largest European delta so well preserved. Highlighting the natural landscapes are the villages, where the local people live and maintain their traditions for hundreds of years. Romania has an abundance of religious architecture and medieval towns and castles, which accentuate and enhance Romania's tourism potential.
