🎒 PRACTICAL TIPS FOR TOURISTS
🧳 WHAT TO PACK
• Light cotton or linen clothes — in Egypt in November it is 25-28°C during the day, cooler in the evening
• A thin jacket or cardigan — for evenings on the ship and in the air-conditioned coach
• Comfortable walking shoes — you will walk long distances at the temples (stone paving, sand)
• Water shoes — the sea at Hurghada has pebbles at the entrance
• Swimsuit and sun protection — minimum SPF 50, the sun in Egypt is strong even in November
• Sunglasses and a hat or cap — mandatory on excursions
• Personal medication + anti-diarrhoea + stomach tablets — change of water and food can affect digestion
• Insect repellent spray — especially useful on the ship in the evenings on the Nile
• Small backpack for excursions — for water, phone, camera, documents
• Photocopies of the passport — keep them separate from the original
• Universal plug adapter — sockets in Egypt are type C/F (European)
• Power bank — excursion days are long, the phone discharges quickly
💵 MONEY AND PAYMENTS
• Take cash in US dollars or euros — the visa is paid in cash at the airport
• Calculate a minimum of 60-80 $ / person for mandatory expenses (visa + cruise tipping)
• ATMs are available in Hurghada, but fees are high — better to exchange at the hotel or exchange office
• Prices in bazaars and markets are always negotiable — the first price is never the final one
• Do not exchange money on the street, only at official exchange offices or at the hotel
🩺 HEALTH AND SAFETY
• Drink only bottled water — not tap water, nor ice cubes in unsafe places
• Apply sunscreen in the morning, even if cloudy — UV radiation is intense
• Stay constantly hydrated — heat and walking can lead to rapid dehydration
• At temples and mosques, shoulders and knees must be covered — take a scarf in your backpack
• Photography inside the tombs may be forbidden — follow the guide’s instructions
• Do not accept insistent invitations into shops while on an excursion — the guide will announce when there is free time for shopping
📸 PHOTOS AND MEMORIES
• Best time for photos at the temples: early morning or sunset — soft light and fewer tourists
• Sunrise on the Nile is a unique spectacle — keep your camera ready in the first days of the cruise
• Aswan Spice Market — turmeric, saffron, hibiscus tea and perfume essences — perfect and inexpensive gifts
• Papyrus and alabaster are found at better prices in local shops than on the ship
