Day 2. Sunday. Kathmandu.

After breakfast, sightseeing tour of Kathmandu.

Today we will visit Durbar Square and the Old Royal Palace with numerous buildings, temples, and pagodas. Durbar Square, with its ancient temples and palaces, embodies the religious and social life of the population. It is here that the kings of Nepal were crowned and solemn celebrations took place after coronations. We will visit the temple of the living goddess Kumari and the Kastamandap temple.

According to legend, the Kastamandap pagoda, dating back to the 12th century, is one of the oldest buildings in Kathmandu and the oldest surviving wooden building in the world. The longevity of the temple is explained by the fact that it is built from a single sacred and very hard sal tree trunk, from the branches of which its reduced copy is made - the Simha Sattal temple.

Initially, the building served as a shelter for passing merchants, pilgrims, and travelers traveling along the Indo-Tibetan trade route. There were many such primitive hotels in Kathmandu because trade caravans passing from India to Tibet and back had to spend the winter in the Kathmandu Valley awaiting the opening of the passes in the spring. Then, in the early period of the Shah dynasty rule (1379), Kastamandap was transformed into a temple dedicated to the protector and patron saint of this dynasty - the holy guru Gorakhnath, whose statue is located in the center of the building. The followers of the saint's cult lived in Kastamandap until 1966 and left the building only due to the reconstruction that began. Nepalese historians believe that the name of the Kastamandap temple (house made of wood) gave the name to the capital of Nepal - Kathmandu.

We will visit the Pashupatinath temple. Pashupatinath is considered the most important Shiva temple in the world (Pashupati, the king of animals, or otherwise the lord of living beings). Every day, thousands of pilgrims from all over the world come to Pashupatinath.

Visiting the Boudhanath stupa. One of the largest Buddhist shrines in Nepal - the Boudhanath stupa (3rd century BCE, rebuilt in the 8th-9th centuries) - is located 10 kilometers northeast of Kathmandu, a little north of Tribhuvan International Airport.

Boudhanath is the largest stupa in Nepal and one of the largest in the world. The stupa is surrounded by Tibetan monasteries on all sides, like fortress walls. Boudhanath has always been associated with Tibetan Buddhism and Lhasa. It was the Boudhanath stupa that greeted Tibetans before entering Kathmandu, walking along the most important trade route that connected Lhasa with the capital of Nepal. Since the second half of the 20th century, Boudhanath has become a religious and cultural center for the Tibetan population of Nepal.

Lunch at one of the restaurants in Kathmandu.

In the second half of the day, an excursion to the Swayambhunath stupa, also known as the "Monkey Temple". Swayambhunath is a famous stupa located on the outskirts of Kathmandu. Several Tibetan monasteries of different schools and directions are located around the stupa. Swayambhunath is also revered by Hindus, who have a small sanctuary near the stupa.

The stupa is located on a high mountain to the west of the city. To climb it, you need to climb 365 steps - the number of days in a year. The sides of the stupa face different parts of the world.

A large number of wild monkeys live in the temple grove on the slopes of the mountain, which are fed by pilgrims and temple servants. That is why the stupa is sometimes called the "Monkey Temple".

The oldest symbol - the Eyes of the Buddha - is depicted on the stupa itself. Return to the hotel. Night at the hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 3. Monday. Kathmandu - Nagarkot (32 km / 1 hour) via Patan and Bhaktapur.

After breakfast, departure to Nagarkot, a popular mountain resort located in the eastern part of the Kathmandu Valley, at an altitude of 2175 meters above sea level. A beautiful place for watching the sunrise.

En route, visit the city of Patan, also known as Lalitpur ("city of beauty and fine arts"). The ancient city of Patan, located 5 km southeast of Kathmandu, is known as a center of fine arts. The number of Hindu temples, Buddhist pagodas, and monuments in the historic center exceeds the number of attractions in Kathmandu. Many travelers believe that Durbar Square in Patan is much richer in traditional Newar architecture and diversity of buildings compared to the historic center of Kathmandu. It's hard to disagree because the whole city is one big museum, and every street hides treasures of the Newar Malla dynasty.

Next, visit Bhaktapur, located at an altitude of 1401 meters, and in its shape resembling a conch shell. Bhaktapur, translated as "City of Devotees", is famous for its fine art, fantastic culture, colorful festivals, traditional dances, and customs of the Newar people. Here you will see the Royal Palace, the Golden Gate, the entrance to the Palace of 55 Windows, a famous monument of Nepali art. Then you will ascend to the highest temple in the Kathmandu Valley - the Nyatapola Temple. After that, return to the hotel to rest and recharge.

The Nyatapola Temple was built in 1702 by King Bhupatindra and became known as one of the most massive and tallest temples. The five-story pagoda, one of only three in the Kathmandu Valley, stands on a five-tiered base. On each tier, there are two stone figures: at the bottom are famous wrestlers, then elephants, lions, griffins, and at the very top, goddesses Baghini and Singhini in the form of a lioness and a tigress. Nepalis believe that each figure placed on a higher tier is ten times stronger than the preceding one, and the famous wrestlers Jaya and Phatta Malla were ten times stronger than ordinary people, so the temple is thus reliably protected. Despite its massive construction, the Nyatapola Temple is distinguished by delicate finishing. It is dedicated to the goddess Lakshmi.

Upon arrival, check-in at the hotel. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 4. Tuesday. Nagarkot - Kathmandu - Pokhara (230 km / 8 hours on the road).

Early in the morning at dawn, a short trek to the viewpoint. From here, you can enjoy a breathtaking panorama of the peaks of the eastern Nepalese Himalayas, including Everest, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang, and Gaurishankar.

After breakfast, departure to Pokhara. You will cross a mountain pass to the starting point of the rafting at the Seti River. Rafting - a descent along a mountain river on inflatable rafts is conducted under the guidance of experienced qualified guides. All necessary equipment is provided. A thorough detailed briefing is a mandatory condition for starting the descent. Transfer to Pokhara and check-in at the hotel.

The city of Pokhara is located 200 kilometers west of Kathmandu, in a quiet valley at an altitude of 827 meters above sea level.

This second most popular city in the country attracts travelers with picturesque landscapes and the proximity of Nepal's main peaks - Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Manaslu, and others.

Pokhara is located on the beautiful Fewa Lake, several major Nepalese trekking routes start here, including the Annapurna Circuit.

Day 5. Wednesday. Pokhara.

Breakfast at the hotel. Excursion to the Pokhara Valley.

In the morning, we will dedicate our time to the amazing surroundings and views from the hilltops, and then descend to the southern shore of Lake Fewa. A boat will be waiting on the shore to take us to the Barahi Temple located on a small island in the middle of the lake.

If the weather permits, you can enjoy stunning views of the "Fish Tail" peak and the Annapurna massif.

Machapuchare is a mountain 6,998 meters high, part of the Annapurna mountain range in the Himalayas. It owes its name "Fish Tail" to the shape of its two peaks, which, when viewed from the west, form a figure resembling the tail of a giant fish. The mountain is revered by the local population as the home of the god Shiva, and the snow feathers are considered the smoke of his divine essence. Return to Pokhara.

In the second half of the day, a short sightseeing tour of the city and visit to the main attractions, including Davis Falls, Seti River Gorge, Kali Temple, and the Tibetan refugee camp. Overnight at the hotel in Pokhara.
