Program

Day 1: Chișinău – Iași – Sighișoara – Sibiu

  • Meet with the tour guide at 20:30 at the Chișinău Circus parking lot for bus boarding. Departure at 21:00 on the route: Chișinău – Iași – Sighișoara – Sibiu.

Day 2: Sighișoara – Sibiu

Arrival in Sighișoara. We will visit the following tourist attractions:

Sighișoara Citadel + Citadel Square: The old historic center of Sighișoara, Mureș County, Romania. Built in the 12th century by Saxon colonists and preserved almost unchanged to this day, it is still inhabited. In 1999, the citadel was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Clock Tower in Sighișoara: A historical and architectural monument, the most massive of the nine defense towers of Sighișoara Citadel that have been preserved to the present. The monument has a height of 64 meters, is located in the southeast part of the citadel, and is visible from any point in the city center.

Scholars' Stairs: Built in 1642, covered to protect children on their way to the J. Haltrich high school. After modifications in 1849, only 175 steps remain.

Church on the Hill: An Evangelical church built in several stages between 1345-1525, dedicated to Saint Nicholas. Located atop the so-called "School Hill," it is considered the most valuable architectural monument in the city and the fourth largest Gothic church in Transylvania, incorporating a Romanesque chapel and a quadrilateral donjon.

Vlad Dracul House: This building is believed to date from the 14th-15th centuries and is said to be where Vlad Dracul, the father of Vlad the Impaler, lived.

Venetian House: Dating from the 16th century, with a simple structure on two floors. Its name comes from the double windows with trilobate frames imitating Venetian Gothic, as seen in all its splendor at the Doge's Palace in Venice.

Arrival in Sibiu. We will visit the following tourist attractions:

Great Square in Sibiu: The central square of Sibiu, existing since 1366 with the completion of the city's third fortification belt. It is the largest public square in the old city and witnessed the economic activities of Sibiu merchants. It hosted citizen gatherings, fairs, and even executions.

Small Square: Located in the area of the second fortification of the old city, on Ocnei Street. The first attestations of the medieval city are from around 1191. At that time, the settlement was inhabited by Saxon colonists and divided into two parts – the Lower Town and the Upper Town.

Bridge of Lies: A metal bridge in Sibiu, built in 1859 above Ocnei Street, linking the Lower Town and the Upper Town. It is the oldest cast iron bridge still in use on the territory of present-day Romania. Several legends surround its name. According to one legend, various markets were held in the Small Square in Sibiu, and after returning home, some buyers realized they had been deceived. They would return to the market, grab the deceitful merchants by the collar, and throw them off the bridge amidst the laughter of the crowd.

Evangelical Cathedral in Sibiu: One of the representative Gothic buildings in Transylvania. It is the cathedral of the Evangelical Church A.C. and the parish church of the evangelical community in Sibiu. Its current form dates from the renovation in 1520 on the structure of the old Romanesque basilica from the 12th century.

Evening accommodation near Sibiu and free time.

Transfăgărășan: Officially numbered DN7C, a road in Romania. It is an asphalted road, reaching near the tunnel by Bâlea Lake at an altitude of 2042 m. Thus, Transfăgărășan ranks second in altitude among alpine roads in Romania. It was built between 1970 – 1974, initiated by Nicolae Ceaușescu.

Bâlea Lake: A glacial lake situated at an altitude of 2034 m in the Făgăraș Mountains, Sibiu County. The lake is 360 m long, with an area of 46,508 m² and a depth of 11.35 m. In 1932, Bâlea Lake and an area of about 4.7 ha around the lake were declared a natural reserve.

Vidraru Dam: Built between 1960-1966 for electricity production, irrigation, and flood prevention. The Vidraru Dam is 166.6 meters high, 307 meters long at the top, and 6 meters thick at the top. When completed, it ranked 5th in Europe and 9th in the world. Its position in Europe remains the same, but globally it is now 27th.

Curtea de Argeș: A city in Argeș County, the first capital of Wallachia, preserving the most important Byzantine buildings in Romania. An important political and economic center during the medieval period. Some of the most important rulers in Wallachian medieval history were born here (Neagoe Basarab, Vladislav I, Mircea the Elder) as well as notable interwar period personalities like Urmuz and Florian Ștefănescu-Goangă.
