Departure to Radauti.
Visiting Bogdana Monastery, an Orthodox monastery founded by voivode Bogdan I (1359-1365), the founder of the Moldovan feudal state. The monastery church was built by voivode Bogdan I (1359-1365), the founder of the Moldovan feudal state, and served as a royal necropolis.
Visiting Sucevita Monastery, an Orthodox monastery in Romania, built between 1583-1586. The architecture combines elements of Byzantine and Gothic art, with additions of architecture from the old wooden churches of Moldova. The mural painting, both inside and outside, is of great artistic value, presenting an extensive biblical narrative from the Old and New Testaments.
Free time for photos at Palma din Bucovina (depending on accommodation).
Accommodation at a guesthouse in the area.
Day 3. Mocanita – Moldovita – Voronet – Iasi – Chisinau (approx. 400 km)
Check-out in the morning.
Departure to Mocanita (approximately 3 hours).
Ride with Mocanita - The narrow-gauge railway from Moldovita was built by a lumber mill owner from Munich, Louis Ortieb, and put into use in 1888 for transporting lumber from the forest to the mill. The Mocanita route originally covered 23.9 kilometers from Moldovita to Rososa, but over the years, various extensions were built, and the entire system reached a length of 73 km in 1987, with the establishment of the Rascova – Râșca dreapta + Arsuri section. The Moldovita line was used until 2001 for transporting lumber. Currently, the line is 12 km long.
Next is a visit to the Moldovita and Voronet monasteries.
Moldovita Monastery is one of the old monastic settlements with an important and glorious historical past. The church with the dedication "The Annunciation" at Moldovita Monastery combines elements of Byzantine and Gothic art. It continues the architectural style of Moldovan monasteries, a style crystallized in the era of Stephen the Great.
Voronet Monastery is a medieval monastic complex, one of the most valuable foundations of Stephen the Great (1457-1504). The church was built in 1488 in just 3 months and 3 weeks, setting a record for that time. Small in size, with a trilobate plan and a Moldovan-style vault on the nave, the church is one of the few religious architecture monuments that largely preserves its original form.
