We continue to discover Greece!
5. Nightlife
Let’s be clear from the start – Greeks love to celebrate life, and that’s clearly reflected in their nightlife culture. If you ever visit Athens, make sure to experience the famous “bouzoukia” – large concert venues where famous artists gather to perform LIVE. And when you're on any island, you'll never be far from a beach bar or a club where you can dance the night away.
6. The Islands of the "Land of the Sun"
Greece offers tourists no less than 250 sunny days per year, making it perfect for an irresistible holiday in any resort. It’s also considered the “Land of the Sun.”
Moreover, the country boasts over 3,000 islands and islets, each with its own special charm. However, only 130 of them are inhabited and suitable for tourists – the rest are covered in wild nature. Among the most popular destinations in Greece where you can enjoy a perfect holiday are the islands of Santorini, Mykonos, Rhodes, Crete, and more.
You’ll feel like you're in a different world, thanks to the breathtaking views of the Greek islands. The most famous ones are, of course, Santorini and Mykonos. If you have some extra time, we encourage you to consider other destinations too – there are so many lesser-known islands that are even more beautiful, less commercial, and less touristy than these two.
For example, in Thassos, you’ll never get bored of the scenery. Why?
Because it offers over 100 stunning beaches.
7. About Olive Trees and Greece
The history of Greek olives is full of twists and turns and is part of some of the most fascinating myths and legends of Ancient Greece. Athena, as a gift to the city that bears her name, offered an olive branch – considered by many gods as a truly valuable present.
Today, Greece ranks third in the world for olive oil production, exporting it to most European countries and beyond. Greeks have been cultivating olive trees since ancient times, passing down this tradition from generation to generation. Moreover, if you're planning a trip to Greece, keep in mind that there are millions of olive trees – some of them are over 700 years old!
8. Athens is home to over 40% of Greece's population
So, a trip to Greece wouldn’t be complete without a walk from the Acropolis to the Parthenon. You absolutely must visit the Acropolis Museum. What’s truly fascinating about this museum is its transparent plexiglass flooring, allowing you to see the active excavation sites beneath your feet!
Just make sure you're not wearing a skirt! :)
In the city, my favorite spot to visit is the rooftop bar of the hotel called A for Athens.
The number of tourists visiting Greece each year actually surpasses the country’s own population.
More precisely, there are about 11 million inhabitants and around 16.5 million tourists annually.
9. And, of course, a bit about religion
The temples, monasteries, churches, and sanctuaries of Greece hold a vast and captivating history that takes us back in time to ancient eras.
Greece offers numerous religious pilgrimages that reflect vitality, faith, and spiritual openness. You can visit special and sacred places such as Aegina Island, where the Relics of Saint Nectarios are kept, or the impressive monastic settlement of Meteora.
"Greece is a beautiful country, complemented by unique wonders that can heal your soul and uplift your spirit."
